I have the greatest respect for couples who recognize that they want to make changes in their relationship and ask for help.

Counseling for Couples in the Twin Cities West Metro Area

No relationship is perfect, and most relationships go through difficult patches from time to time. However, if you are experiencing persistent feelings of hopelessness, anger or sadness about your relationship, it’s time to consider speaking to a marriage counselor.

I am Jessica Braun (Zingelman), a Maple Grove marriage and couples counselor who can help you improve your relationship with your spouse or significant other. I have more than a dozen years of experience helping couples work through their issues and establish healthier ways of interacting with each other.

Establishing Trust with Clients — Even Reluctant Ones

I work with couples in all stages of their relationship, from young couples who are thinking about marriage to those who have been together for decades. I establish trust and develop positive working relationships with my clients, even those who are reluctant to be involved in counseling.

My clients come to me with many different needs and concerns, including those involving:

  • Communication
  • Finances
  • Parenting styles
  • Intimacy or lack thereof
  • Conflict
  • Violence
  • Addiction
  • Infidelity
  • Trust
  • Issues involving blended families
  • Family of origin issues and expectations
  • Deciding whether or not to stay together
  • Premarital issues
  • Recurring patterns
  • Jealousies
  • Problems with the children

During the first session, I will ask both people to tell me what brought them into counseling. I’ll ask them both to describe their families of origin and the influence these relationships have on their current relationship.

Often my clients recognize that they have fallen into a dysfunctional pattern, but they seem unable to find a way out of it. As an impartial outsider, I will listen to both parties and help them develop problem-solving techniques and new ways of interacting with each other that yield more positive results.

Every couple is unique, so I do not use an off-the-shelf solution. I tailor my approach to the needs of each couple. In many instances, however, I employ the principles of Gottman Therapy to help couples build or rebuild trust, communication, respect and problem-solving skills. I am Level 1 trained in the Gottman Theory approach. In addition, I am Prepare/Enrich certified for pre-marital needs and/or to strengthen your marriage.
